In this guide, I will be giving a comprehensive comparison on Two very famous VPN in the VPN world CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN.
I have previously reviewed both VPN where I revealed all you need to know about them. I’ve studied their strengths and weaknesses, this is why I made this comparative article on CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN
There are a lot of VPN today; however, CyberghostVPN and NordVPN stands out as one of the best rated
My goal today is to provide a quick comparative analysis of both VPN and in the end, you will find out which one is best for you.
Let’s get started!
I wrote this article in plain language to help you understand better, below is a list of everything I will be covering today.
Here is a list of what I’ll be covering today. Click on any of them to take you straight to the content.

- My Verdict (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN)- Which is Better?
1. CyberghostVPN Overview.
CyberGhost VPN is Founded in 2011 in Bucharest, Romania, CyberGhost is the creator of one of the world’s most reliable privacy and security solutions in the world.
The company secures and anonymizes the online presence of over 36 million users across the globe.
CyberGhost defends privacy as a basic human right, being the first in the industry to publish a transparency report while building new user-oriented crypto-technology for the future.
2. NordVPN Overview
NordVPN was born in 2012 when four childhood friends came together to build technology that could liberate the internet.
Spending a lot of time in different parts of the world they saw Internet censorship, content control and intrusive government surveillance growing faster than ever before.
The feeling that the internet was losing its main purpose led to a search for possible solutions on how to overcome all the restrictions.
After setting up the first VPN server and sharing the prototype among their friends, the creators started receiving extremely positive feedback and were encouraged to continue their work.
That’s how NordVPN was born, now serving more than 12 million people worldwide.
3. CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN
Jurisdiction- CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN.
Neither company is based in a ‘Five Eyes’ country, so they are both free from security agency pressure to disclose the details of their users’ activities or cooperate with US or UK court orders to trace a particular customer.
CyberghostVPN is based outside the jurisdiction of surveillance alliances
It started in Germany, but now, their headquarters is in Bucharest, Romania.
The country isn’t famous just for being the land of vampires. Romania also made a name for itself within the European Union for upholding privacy-friendly values.
Also, Romania is not a member of any surveillance alliance, like the 5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, or 14 Eyes alliances. Because of this, they are under absolutely no obligation to collaborate with any foreign intelligence agencies.
NordVPN operates in a country far away from data retention laws and 5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, or 14 Eyes alliances.
NordVPN is blessed with a privacy-friendly base of operations in Panama, a country that doesn’t require VPN providers to keep logs connected to their customers’ online activities. As such, NordVPN follows a total “no logs” policy.
In addition to that, they also accept Bitcoin in return for their services, thus, increasing anonymity online
Winner: it is a very difficult task to draw a winner based on jurisdiction, this is because both are not member of any surveillance alliance, like the 5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, or 14 Eyes alliances.
And they also have testimonies and proofs of strict No-log policy.
Features (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN).
CyberghostVPN looks like a simple VPN, it is powered by advanced tech. There’s a automatic kill switch, zero-knowledge DNS, and plenty more.
Below is a list of CyberghostVPN features
- Hide your IP.
- Strongest encryption.
- Wi-Fi Protection.
- No Logs.
- Secure connections.
- Secure Transactions & Conversations
- Global Servers
- Restricted Content Access
- Ad Blocking
- Multi-Platform Protection
- Malware Blocking
One downside of CyberGhost features is that the ad blocker does not even work on HTTPS sites. Even worse, it blocks adds on HTTP sites only by using traffic manipulation, rather than through DNS requests. But since most sites are now HTTPS, the ad blocker is essentially useless.
CyberGhost’s intuitive interface is clean and easy to use making it perfect for beginners.
It also offers a set of advanced features for more experienced VPN users.
CyberGhost’s services are encrypted with the superior 256-bit AES algorithm and traffic is transferred with the use of VPN protocols including OpenVPN (TCP and UDP ports), IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, and PPTP.
The apps are equipped with the kill switch a valuable mechanism that blocks your device’s access to the Internet as soon as it detects an unexpected VPN connection loss. This way it prevents your sensitive data from ending up in the wrong hands.
NordVPN offers some great features, and unlike with CyberGhost, all the features work correctly. Here are a few of the features that I really liked with NordVPN:
- Ad blocking feature that works on HTTP and HTTPS websites (called CyberSec)
- Double-hop VPN servers (31 to choose from, and the speeds are great)
- Tor-over-VPN servers
- Netflix works well (discussed more below)
- Excellent leak protection features (two-level kill switch)
- VPN with dedicated IP is an add-on feature for $70 per year.
The CyberSec feature is one of my favorites because it will effectively block ads, tracking, and even malware domains. This is enabled directly in the VPN client and it will work immediately. Additionally, blocking ads will also speed up page load speeds, in addition to protecting your privacy.
In addition to all of the features listed above, NordVPN also offers dedicated P2P servers. These offer the fastest speeds if you need a good VPN for torrenting.
Additionally, NordVPN also offers obfuscation features to cloak VPN traffic to look like regular HTTPS encryption. This is a useful feature to get around VPN blocks, such as at school or work. It’s also important if you need a VPN for China, where VPNs are regularly blocked.
No of servers (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN).
More servers don’t mean the service is better, but it can be helpful. If you absolutely need a VPN connection to a specific geographic location, having more servers means a better chance of finding an uncrowded one in the region you desire.
They currently run 6292 servers in 89 countries, and it’s a number that goes up by leaps and bounds every time I check (over the last several months, for example, CyberGhost has added over 1000 new servers).
CyberGhost is among the heaviest hitters when it comes to number of servers. CyberGhost tells me that the company rents servers in every location in which it offers VPN access.
It does have some virtualization on 340 of those servers, but the location of the virtual servers is the same as the location of the actual physical servers. That seems reasonable to me.
A user can automatically be connected to the network with a server less demanded or has the option of manually selecting a server from a list. If the numbers of active users increase, additional servers are activated.
NordVPN is one of the best when it comes to server parks.
NordVPN, for example, boasts an extensive global coverage, with over 5,452 servers spread across 59 countries.
This global outreach enables users to access this VPN’s services, regardless of geographical restrictions. These numbers are not fixed, because the numbers set to grow with time.
However, NordVPN ends up beating CyberGhost in terms of these specialty servers, including Standard servers, Double VPN servers, Dedicated IP servers, Obfuscated servers, and Onion-over-VPN.
Apart from their imposing server networks, both VPNs have servers across notable countries. NordVPN has servers in Japan,Sweden, Egypt, Latvia, and Cyprus, whereas CyberGhost has servers in Pakistan, Kenya, Colombia, and Us.
Winner: I say this is a Tie because although CyberghostVPN has more server than NordVPN, NordVPN tries to offer higher numbers of servers in areas that often don’t get much support, like Japan (77 servers), Sweden (155 servers), and Singapore (62 servers).
CyberGhost offers at least eight servers in each of its served countries, with its highest number (539 servers) in the US. By comparison, NordVPN has just a single server in some countries, but also offers more choice than CyberGhost elsewhere.
Speed (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN)
CyberGhost has earned the top spot in previous speed test comparisons, but it’s since been surpassed by rivals like NordVPN.
I ran speed tests at various times of day on CyberGhost servers in Germany, UK, and New York. Here are the results broken down by region:
For the NordVPN vs CyberGhost speed tests below, I was using AES-256 encryption and the OpenVPN protocol with all tests. My baseline (non-VPN) speed was about 160 Mbps.
First I tested CyberGhost. Here was my speed with the CyberGhost server in Germany: 78 Mbps.
Considering my baseline speed was around 160 Mbps, this is not a good speed test result, but it’s also not horrible.
For the next test I used a CyberGhost server in the UK. Once again, the results were not great, at only 56 Mbps.
Lastly, I also tested servers in the United States.
Here was the CyberGhost VPN server in New York: 76 Mbps.
I also tested a NordVPN server in Germany and was able to get much faster speeds: 149 Mbps.
Then as I did for cyberghost, I also tested a NordVPN server in the UK. The results were just as good as before at around 150 Mbps.
And here is the speed test for a NordVPN server in New York:
With all servers tested in the United States, NordVPN was faster than CyberGhost. If you need to use USA VPN servers with good speeds, NordVPN would be a solid choice.
Winner: NordVPN is currently one of the fastest VPNs I have tested. It has greatly improved speeds over the past year.
CyberGhost, on the other hand, is not up to par, but it is better.
While CyberGhost had an average connection speed that was 78% of my original speeds, NordVPN has download speeds that were 92% on average of my initial speeds.
It is therefore clear that NordVPN offers much faster connection speeds than CyberGhost.
Price and Accepted Payment Methods (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN)
Cyberghost is a VPN that do not offer free services and does not offer free trial, however they have a 45-days money-back guarantee:
Its prices include
- 1 Month =$12.99
- 3 Months= N/A
- 6 Months= $7.99
- 1 Year= $5.25/month
- 2 Years= $4.13/month
- 3 Years= $2.75/month (+ Two extra free month)
You can pay with a credit card, PayPal, or Bitcoin and it have a “no-hassle” 45-day money-back guarantee.
However, cyberghost do not offer support of Paysafe Cards, because Paysafe Card doesn’t cooperate with VPN providers
NordVPN doesn’t actually have a free trial but gives a generous 30-day money-back guarantee. And you can use this just like a free trial to fully test NordVPN risk-free before you commit.
NordVPN charges a buck more per month than CyberGhost for their annual subscriptions, nearly doubling that if you opt to pay monthly.
Below are the current NordVPN price plans for different subscription lengths.
Note that the best prices are with the 70% discount on three-year subscriptions.
NordVPN offers four pricing tiers:
- 1 Month =$11.95
- 3 Months= N/A
- 6 Months= N/A
- 1 Year= $6.99month
- 2 Years= $4.99/month
- 3 Years= $3.49/month
A variety of payment methods are accepted, including: credit cards, Cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ripple, Ethereum), AliPay, prepaid cards and many more. You can also make a payment through iTunes or Google Play.
We don’t list exact pricing in our articles, as many VPN providers are almost always adjusting their pricing and offering “special one-time only” deals.
So, visit the website of any provider that you’re interested in to view their current pricing.
Winner: These two VPNs come with similar pricing schemes. Cyberghost is slightly more affordable, but not by much.
Compatible Devices (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN).
Cyberghost support a variety of devices and platforms. CyberGhost VPN has applications and manual configurations for :
Computers (desktops and laptops) Windows, Mac, Linux, Mobile devices (smartphones and tablets), iOS, Android, Smart TV’s, Android TVs, Routers, Apple TVs, Roku TV, PlayStations, Web Browser Extension (Proxy)
NordVPN is compatible with all popular platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, iPhone, iPad, Android TV, Chrome and Firefox
They also offer a well detailed tutorial guide on set up and manual configurations for these devices.
Winner: Tie since both support a wide variety of device.
Customers Support. (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN).
CyberGhost allows you get in touch with their knowledgeable colleagues from Technical Support via the Live Chat feature.
But, before dropping them a line though, consider going through their extensive FAQs, which include solutions to the most common situations.
There are two quick ways to reach cyberghost:
Via email at [email protected]
creating a ticket on their site (click ‘Submit a request’ on their HELP page – you may be needed to create a separate account in order for you to keep track of your request).
Connect with them via:
Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest
You can get support over chat and email. Their team of bright and analytical minds will answer your questions and solve your issues quickly and efficiently. Feel free to contact them anytime by clicking on the chat or email buttons below their website.
NordVPN have three customer support teams:
General info – general information about the NordVPN service and features; help with setting up devices and accessing streaming websites securely.
Billing – help with NordVPN subscriptions, accounts, payment and dedicated IP inquiries.
Connectivity – help with setting up a router; advanced connectivity troubleshooting; help with connectivity in countries with internet restrictions.
Winner: Both CyberghostVPN and NordVPN offer support via live chat and email. So its a Tie.
Netflix and streaming.
In the category of Netflix streaming, there is once again a clear winner.
CyberGhost claims to work with Netflix. In the CyberGhost VPN client, you can connect to either the US Netflix or UK Netflix server. However, after connecting to CyberGhost’s US Netflix server, I was blocked by Netflix.
CyberGhost does not appear to be a good VPN to use with Netflix when the dedicated Netflix server is getting blocked.
NordVPN has always worked well with Netflix. Sure enough, NordVPN unblocked Netflix without any problems at all. Here I’m streaming Netflix through a NordVPN server in the US.
NordVPN unblocks all major Netflix regions around the world, including US Netflix, UK Netflix, Canada Netflix, Australia Netflix, and many other regions. It also works well with other streaming services such as BBC iPlayer, Amazon, and Hulu. If you need a good VPN that works with Netflix, NordVPN is one of the best choices.
You can use a CyberGhost account on between 1 to 7 devices at the same time:
iOS in-app purchase: Up to 7 iOS devices linked to the same Apple ID
Android in-app purchase: Up to 7 Android devices linked to the same Google account
Regular subscriptions: Between 1 device and up to maximum 7 devices (depending on the plan chosen)
It is important to note that your e-mail address needs to be linked to the iTunes or Android purchase so that you can use the same plan across 7 devices in the same time on various platforms.
NordVPN allows 6 simultaneous connections.
That is to say you can secure up to 6 devices with a single account, including your smart TV and router.
However, there is only one limit. If you connect devices to the same server, you must choose different protocols for the VPN connections.
Also, if you have even more devices at home, you can set up your router with our VPN. The router would use only one device slot but all your devices connected to the network will be under VPN protection.
It’s a way to secure all your devices – desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, game consoles, smart TVs – by using up a single device slot.
Winner: It is very clear that Cyberghost is the winner because it allows 7 devices to connect simultaneously bypassing NordVPN with just one device.
Security and Encryption (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN).
CyberGhost’s AES 256-bit encryption guarantees you the highest level of data protection available.
CyberGhost also offers industry-leading security features.
They include a strict no-logs policy, and an automatic kill switch so no third party can intercept the keys.
its safety was questioned following their acquisition by Kape Technologies, an Israeli ad tech company that was previously accused of hiding malware software bundles.
Users were worried that CyberGhost’s new parent company could compromise their safety.
However, CyberGhost has proven that they take their users’ privacy seriously. The company publishes an annual transparency report
NordVPN offers high-level AES-256 encryption for their users’ connections via OpenVPN with TCP/UDP, IKEv2/IPsec, L2TP/IPSec, PPTP and SSTP protocols. In addition, the provider offers kill switch, DNS leak and IPv6 leak protections.
It also has a Kill-switch feature which is a must if you handle important or sensitive information.
It “kills” the internet connection if your VPN connection drops, keeping your data secure at all times.
They also offer DoubleVPN protection (which routes your connection through twin VPN servers) and obfuscated servers (which help hide your VPN activity).
Winner: Both have the highest level of encryption and is currently considered unbreakable, while also offering a good performance.
4. My Verdict (CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN) -Which is Better?
This is a tough call since both VPNs are great options.
The selection of the VPN service purely depends on your requirements. Both the companies are well reputed and we reviewed both the services on Cyberpadi.
In our finidings, we found both the companies are very strict about maintaining user privacy.
Now we answer the question CyberghostVPN vs NordVPN – Which is better
Both CyberghostVPN and NordVPN are good VPN providers.
Here’s an overview of the categories and how we looked at winner:

- Speed:- NordVPN
- Price:- Cyberghost
- Compatible device:- Tie
- Customers Support:- Tie
- Netflix and Streaming:- NordVPN

Even though there was Tie in most categories, CyberghostVPN put up a great fight.
Here’s the big takeaway: If you want a leading VPN with lowest price, high number of simultaneous connections and worthy privacy features. Then CyberGhost is the one to get.
But, NordVPN is the clear winner. And perform way better in all the mentioned aspects. Plus, it comes with additional “value for money” features.
That said, don’t underestimate CyberghostVPN. It has already shown a lot of promise, and future updates will surely make it even better. For now, NordVPN is a solid pick for the Two VPN .
